Personally, I think that if the car is not correctly taxed or insured then the plate should be returned to the council

Why..if it is on the road working it will be...correctly taxed and insured...

Odd as I currently have 2 buses licenced as public service vehicles, but SORN and not insured for road use. I don't have to return the PSV discs or tell the DVSA that they are off the road. But I do have to keep a record of them being SORN.

I don't see why someone can't keep an uninsured SORN licenced taxi off the highway for a period. It maybe someone whose business is seasonal and doesn't use it for part of the year. Surely it would cost the LA more in admin to keep taking licences back and re-issuing them? The vehicle is still a taxi until it is withdrawn from service as a taxi, i.e the licence is returned to the LA.

Are your bus licenses permanently for those 2 vehicles or can YOU transfer the pcv license to another vehicle yourself? A hackney/ph license is specific to that vehicle only.

Can't see the problem in taking them off the insurance. Round here companies take them off the insurance if they have no drivers for them, they still keep their plates on the vehicles.

Good morning

If the vehicle is no longer taxed and/or insured the vehicles Hackney Carriage Licence plate & paper certificate would need to be returned to the Council.

The documents can be kept on file. On your return, register and insure the vehicle and bring in the updated insurance documents when collecting your Hackney Carriage documents.

Thank you for your query.

Well I'm in the MR T camp on this, we all no the rules on removing the plate. But you could play ball they just want to hold it until you need it, how nice of them. I would say thanks but I will keep it safe myself :D
