BTW Jimbo, I'm still not entirely clear as to how a Doblo or converted Sharan or whatever can't meet the Lincoln accessability criteria?

If it's accessible it can be licensed. Where did I give you the impression that it was otherwise?

You seemed to be alluding that the exempted driver would be gaining a big cost advantage by being allowed to run a Shara, but if converted Sharans and Doblos are allowed then I can't really see a huge difference cost wise?

Also, I find it strange that all the taxis are either TXs, Metros or Eurotaxis if other accessible vehicles are permitted.

The exempted driver has given the Council a list of people carriers, which include the sharan. His next vehicle will not repeat NOT be wheelchair accessible.

A new TX4? £30,000 to £35,000.

A new E7 variant? £21,000 to £25,000

A new Kia Carens? £14,500 to £17,500.

Fuel economy is another consideration. 25-30 mpg from the TX4 45-50 from the Kia.

You may well find it strange that there are no Doblo's in Lincoln.
Well, owner/drivers here impose their own quality controls.

Did you say that his next vehicle will NOT be wheelchair accessible?

Well my point was that while you seemed to be saying that this would give the driver a huge cost advantage, in actual fact the other drivers could operate substantially cheaper vehicles if they wanted to.

Well, yes, we did realise that, as with Gateshead, Lincoln does seem to inhabit its own parallel taxi universe.

I do agree with what you're saying about a level playing field, but it does seem a bit bizarre that in effect it's the trade who are imposing the more level playing field rather than the council.

Who knows, if this driver gets his way then he could be the straw that breaks the camel's back and Lincoln could end up like Doblo-land.

But there must have been the same wailing and gnashing of teeth when the Eurotaxis arrived?

I wonder if TfL would let Mr GBC run his Smart Car as a Taxi if he produced a sicknote?

Well good luck if you buy it.

They look like an overturned pram to me.

The new, (to him, anyway) Non accessible taxi has been plated and is now working.

It's a Citroen Piccasso, 02 registration, cost the driver £4,000.

So how is that fair competition?

Well it would certainly be unfair in Blackpool

But some would say that by running a Citreon he'll end up worse off that you anyway :)
