If you accept a job that ends out of your district and agree a fare before hand with the customer, do you have to use your meter.

If so, why?

I think the answer is no, but I have heard that some councils insist on drivers using the meters inside the area, then turning it off when they cross the border.

Seems daft, but maybe LOs are ensuring drivers trying it on don't use it as an excuse when doing un-metered work within the district.

It's a good idea to run the meter anyway, then you have something to go by if the punter changes his mind about the destination, or if he said say Coalchester but the destination turns out to be 10 miles past Coalchester.
