Hi everyone,
I have my private hire taxi test tomorrow. Does anyone know if my work partner & named driver can take the taxi for its test, as long as they have all the right doc's with then. The place is closed for the night or I would have phoned lol. Test if 1st thing.

Thanks for the help ! :)

It's Midlothian council, but the examination centre is Edinburgh council.

Anyone can drive the motor before it's licensed (provided they are insured), but only a licensed driver afterwards.

Which law covers this in Scotland?

No idea, but if a vehicle isn't licensed then surely there isn't a requirement for a licensed driver to drive it.

Or have I missed something? :?

OK, found it :D

    SCHEDULE D

SECTIONS RELATING TO OFFENCES AND OTHER RELEVANT HIRE CAR PROVISIONS

Licensing and Regulation of Taxis and Private Hire Cars

13(1) A licence, to be known as a “taxi driver’s licence” or, as the case may be, a “private hire car driver’s licence”, shall, subject to subsection (2) below, be required for driving or otherwise having charge of a taxi or private hire car.
    (2) A private hire car driver’s licence shall not be required by the holder of a taxi driver’s licence for driving or otherwise having charge of a private hire car whilst in operation as such.

Yes, that covers the vehicles once they are plated. Until they are plated, they are just cars. So if this is a new plate, anyone can drive it. If it is a renewal, only a licensed driver can drive it.

Provided they have the correct DVLA driving licence (or equivalent) and insurance cover, they can drive it in.
Up here the paperwork is usually complete by the time the vehicle is inspected and the plate is issued as soon as the test is passed.
A taxi or PHC driver's licence would therefore be needed to drive it off the premises.

How? the garage cant make the plate or print the licence surely? we pay at the LA, get given the test form, book a test, once passed we take the paperwork back to the LA and await the plate, on the form it say "upto 14 days" so from pay to plate can be 21 days, ALTHOUGH......my insurers (whose certificate i have to show at time of paying the LA) insist the car carries a plate......and any driver needs a badge.....to be insured......to be plated.......lol

chicken.....egg........omelette

Temporary licence is already paid and granted subject to test pass. Plate is made on the premises.

That is how it works in Nottingham.
The testing station is run by the council. The vehicle passes and the plates are put on the vehicle within a couple of minutes.
