Stark reality of the Taxi Trade is quite simply this young skywalker..
1. Credit crunch means fewer fares.
2. Longer hours for 1996's wages.
3. De-limitation creates over-ranking situation.
4. Totally mis-governed Trade = Anarchy.
5. Buy a Euro Millions Ticket on Friday..more chance of making money off that.
8. Get a job with "The I'm Losing The Plot" Helpline. You'd never be out of work with our lot !

What happened with 6. & 7.? Are those a secret?

You on the level ?

:? :?

As i have nothing at the moment i may as well give it a go. If it aint enough then back to the drawing board.
As for the credit crunch, i aint recovered from the one which hit the coal industry in the late 80s early 90s.

Good luck it's worth a go and maybe you'll like it and progress to something more than 4 days a week. It would however be better if you could work the Saturday night :D

As in any other walk of life...What you put in, you get out. You can sit on your a*** all day and moan about everybody else's recession or, if you're hack, you can get out and work.

Schools back next week, people get paid this weekend, weather starts getting sh!tty, christmas just around the corner. Good luck to you. It will either suit you or it won't.

10 years ago, my reply was 'Me? A taxi driver? No way. Here I am thoroughly enjoying it....You may not; Don't buy a vehicle until you're commited to the life.

The business is there to do if you're prepared to dig it out.

Good luck.

I will second that !

I started in this around 8 years ago in Newport Gwent and things were pretty bad even then, but it gave me a good grounding because I could never wait for work to come to me........I had to go and find it. Then I got my license in Cardiff. The guys down there were used to the good times i.e waiting on the ranks and it just came to them! now most are struggling because of an increase from 450 hacks to around 850, and of course the recession, but they still wait on the ranks because that is what they have always done, they never had to look for it and they still don't........bless them.

It is not brilliant but I do a lot better than most, I literally look all over the City and it makes all the difference..........flag downs and some ranks or places of entertainment with people just waiting and all because they go back to base one every time and as I say bless them.

Having said that your area has got to have a reasonable size population, or it is quite easy to sink even if you drive round in circles like I sometimes do.

If by plating you mean getting my own car, no. I will be working for an operator.
I have read through this forum and the advice is to try it out for a while before taking on debt. Good advice!

Hi all
i have just applied for my Hack/PH licence. Having never done any Taxi work before i would be happy for any tips from all you experienced drivers. I have been promised at least 4 days work from a local operator, i am aware that you either love or hate the job, if i love it i may get my own Taxi. Time will tell.
I am in the Cannock Chase area.

Thanks

Tip..make the best of your 4 days work....one day soon you'll not be allowed to work for anything like as long as four days without needing to take 2 days off afterwards and a break from driving every time you manage to get your vehicle up to 50 mph.

Its feched up..GBCs exactly right, try Tescos...and believe me that dont trip easy off my tongue.
