Aye...and that madness costs us tens of £billions to enforce and makes our products more expensive which allows the likes of the Chinese to compete with a huge advantage because they dont fechin worry about such Idiotic Health and Safety Issues.

Same goes for Environmental or equality in the wokplace( ooops I mean workplace..A Wokplace is a chinese Kitchen ) issues as well.

The EU...saviour of the working man is also going to fast become our Executioner as well by its implementation of such Insanity.

My Nephew works as a H&S Manager on the railways. He says that a lot of the conditions imposed by H&S actually increase the risk of injury and loss of life.

EG.
1. A train not allowed to stop at a station because the platform wasnt long enough, despite the fact that the doors of the train not in the platform would not open and they advertised that passengers for station X had to travel in the rear of the train.

Train stops calling at the station - passengers now use the nest station up the line, whih involves them walking down a dark lane at night with no footpath. Several incidents since that happened. None before. H&S response: The roads are not our problem.

2. They closed a foot crossing and installed an overbridge. H&S made them close the overbridge as it didn't have a top on it so people could commit suicide from it if they wanted.

Just a couple of examples. He recited a veritable list.

Then of course, there are the trains ordered before the DDA Act came into force, delivered 5 years later (it apparently takes a long while to build a train) but which sat in sidings for years after delivery as H&S had changed the rules, and they didn't have door opening hooters that were different from the door closing ones, so a blind person wouldn't know whether the doors were opening or closing.

In the intervening years, the blind people had to use trains that didn't have door opening hooters at all.

Here's another one:

We have two lifts in our offices (ground to first floor only) that comply with DDA. So a wheelchair user can get upstairs. Cost us £40,000, despite the fact that we built our offices with a ground floor control room for a wheelchair user who doesnt want to come upstairs (he thinks we are all "Loonys" upstairs). However, in the event of a fire, the lifts have to switch off automatically so cannot be used as an escape. The question we asked H&S: how does the wheelchair user get out?

The answer: don't put wheelchair users on the first floor.

Q: so why did we need the lifts?

answer: that is the law. I didn't write it.

The lifts were handy for moving the furniture in. But we dont think anyone else has used them since built.

Next question: What is the difference between a PCV Transit and a Hackney Transit that requires the bigger vehicle not to have scissors in its first aid kit? Different first aid kits, and different fire extinguishers. 9 passengers or 8. No CRB needed for the PCV driver. Half the cost to licence.

Why do drivers need to be ISA registered, when its the drunken passengers, unruly school kids, and unlicensed flyers that cause all the problems? We've had a few drivers attacked over the years. Never had a case of the driver attacking a passenger, nor even heard of one in my area.

And why, oh why, oh why, oh why, can we beat Arsenal AND Chelsea, yet still lose to Man United and Portsmouth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD !!!!

Rant over. Sorry.

On a similar note. All the railway stations on the line through our town from Leicester to Peterborough have got new wheelchair crossings. You can't use them on your own so you have to be escorted. My ex wife told me of a trip she did with some wheelchair users, They got on the train in Melton Mowbray to go to Stamford. They had a nice day in Stamford and then returned to the station. There were no staff available to escort them accross the tracks so they had to go the wrong way and cross the tracks at peterborough. The eventually got off the train back in Melton only to find that there was no one available to escort them over the tracks. By now the train they arrived on had departed so they had to wait an hour to get the next train to Leicester where they could cross the tracks and then get the next train back to Melton. You just couldn't make it up.

Our LA also now requests a Health and Safety Policy, Envronmental Policy and an Equality and Diversity policy..

I cant find an off the peg template for H&E nor Environmental policies so I drafted up my own...both reasonable attempts I thought, so I emailed the policys as attachments to my Local authority Transport dept that deals with tenders and procurement for them to peruse and ascertain whether or not they would be acceptable and meet their requirements.

so...comes back the LA reply stating:

I am sorry but I cannot look at the documents you asked me to as this would be illegal and could later lead to a challenge from another supplier as unfair help.

How can seeking advice on H&E or Environmental Policy be Illegal or unfair..especially as its the Council that requested them..sure it ought to be acitively encouraged!!

Anyways..they end up giving give me the email addy of the supplier development programme...and so on checking out the SDP site they the SDP advise you to get advice from your local authority on such policies..

Hours of effort later and ive looped the loop....no one seems able or willing to help..they just pass the buck fro LA to Quango and back to LA.

Surely you would have thought the LA's could offer Templates as to what it is they require...Sadly I really dont think they know themselves what it is the legally require..confusion rules!!

Yeah. LMFAO. They asked us for an equality and diversity statement showing that we operated no unfair employment practices against anyone. I sent back "They employ me don't they? Obviously, they will employ anyone"

I got called into the boss a few days later. Although he was amused, he said County Hall were not. So I had to do another one. So, again, I just copied their one and put our name at the top - allegedly.

I spoke to our LO about it, she said:

"Clearly it's daft. But it's Government Policy, so clear off and do it." She then walked off sniggering, muttering loud enough for me to hear ".... and now I have a Taxi Driver expecting common sense from Central Government, whatever next. Where has HE been for the last few years!
