I suppose one option you might consider is to sell both your cab and plate. You could then buy a doblo and toddle off down the road to Gateshead and work the weekends. You might have to get permission off gateshead angel first though, because he doesn't like anyone exercising their right to work in a free market.

The land of real people eh Mr Spencer.

Hi JD, I did indeed receive my plate free - around 7 years ago now.

Thanks for the posts. Gives me something to think about.

It's like in any business. If you are lucky to be in it at the right time you'll score. I was obviously lucky enough to be in the right position at the right time to get a plate free - like everyone else. However you might like to know I did loss thousands on a purchase of my first taxi....a Metrocab. I bought one for £19,000 then sold for £12,000 6 months later as it was falling to bits. I had spent thousands on it too. Then my next one was written off (not my fault) with ONE payment left on it - I have yet to get any insurance payments made yet. So its all "swings and roundabouts" really.

If you're going to ask me if I would buy a plate now if Newcastle restrict the plates for a given amount of time, then the answer would be yes. Even if it was £16,000.

Location: Plymouth, i think, i'll just check the A to Z!
theres a couple of 04 VW on the autotrader website with 20K miles going for £14K, i know you've got the wheel chair add-on but that is probably cancelled out by the fact that its been plated.
i'd be happy to get £30K for the car + plate. at least that pays off the loan with some left over.
