I don't know if this will help .. but.. My understanding regarding free phones.. is that.. if the phone is a direct line... meaning that the person using it cannot phone anywhere else, then it becomes an extension of their office, and as such should be licensed by the La in which it is situated... :wink:

Slightley moving away from free phones how would this work then ive got a phone system which is ip based so i could be in oz & take calls their off by laptop & send the job to my despatch system does that mean the call ive taken i shud send a sydney plated driver to pick the job up? i think the la have to get up to speed with technology they seem light years behind

IMO it's where the booking is taken/confirmed.

So would u say taking a call in sydney on my laptop & sending the job to the despatch system via broadband i have to send a oz plated car or does my softphone on my laptop become just a extension of my phone system & i can send a brum plated driver?

If you take a call/booking in Aus, then you would need to re-send that job to a licensed PH operator for them to despatch to one of their vehicles.

Wouldn't matter if it went straight to a hackney carriage.

ok that is fine but its so silly if 2morow i moved half my call centre to india to take calls the LA wud not have a clue where the calls wer being taken because customers wud still be dialling their local numbers & i dont think the LA cud prove wer the calls wer being taken on ip phone systems so everything seems so outdated

It is outdated, but I think the three license rule is a good one.
