Wanabee, are you suggesting that the meter should be run to the boundary?

not at all

but i am saying it MUST be used from the start of any hirings IN your LA and certainly looks better when used in ALL hirings, even if a fare has been agreed

i used to state a fare, and play the odds, putting the meter on and telling punters if its less ill charge less, but if its more i wont charge more (than the agreed fare)....they seemed to like the odds

seriously been driving 25 years and never done that. When going out of your licensing area you do not need to engage your meter.Plus why would i want to quote a fare then put the meter on and charge the lower rate ?

it was in our regs that the meter MUST be put on at the start of all hirings, and frankly it was easier to put it on every time rather than deciding which trips were going in or out the area, i loved having a meter, cant see why anyone WOULDNT put it on if they have one

Your obviously not getting me, its not beneficial to me to go out of blackpool on a busy night or day when theres plenty of customers in the area.So if someone really wants to ill quote them if they dont like it they dont get in simple. But as for the meter bit if the job is going out of your area you DONT have to use your meter. Its the same all over im pretty sure

It doesnt say you can avoid starting the meter though!

Quote:
Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle Licence

For a vehicle to be licensed as either a private hire or hackney carriage it should be on the Council's list of approved vehicles. It must pass a pit test at the Council's depot in Layton when it will be issued with a Certificate of Compliance, and the vehicle owner should provide valid insurance and the Vehicle Registration Document (or Bill of Sale to prove ownership).

Hackney carriages can stand on authorised taxi ranks and are available for immediate hire. The meter in the vehicle calculates the fares on journeys within the Blackpool boundary. On journeys outside of the boundary, the driver is able to charge a higher fare.

They probally say hirings starting or finishing are at the discretion of the driver,or something of words to that effect.I know you can legally display signs in your vehicle about charging out of the borough fares.
