Yes, but that's a personal viewpoint about how you think taxi drivers should be dressed.

I mean, if the market was truly competitive, you would never get away with that standard of dress, surely?

I know certain elements of the London trade, and this applies to minicabs as well,(and indeed throughout GB) look like they found a hedge on the way in and done the deed.

But the vast majority of taxi drivers dress themselves just fine.

I feel comfortable walking into best hotels to use the little boys room (almost worth waiting for some of the loo's in there!) but I would feel a prat, dressed in trousers, shirts and tie, picking up Mrs Jones outside Sainsburys in Islington with her shopping going to the Marquis housing estate.

I think we should be more concerned with the state of our taxi's, I clean mine every two days regardless of the weather, the inside is brushed daily and the windows cleaned daily, and yes, i replace the 'pine tree' airfreshner often.

That, acompanied by good service is what customers value over and above a tie.

Well I didn't mention ties, but how do you know what the customer wants?

I know that some of the taxi offices in my manor specify a tie, because it's a competive market.

The jeans and trainers brigade tend to compete on price, and of course on the ranks they don't have to compete at all.
