As long as you're merely sitting passively in your car you can't be touting.

It's not just the activities, or not as the case may be, of the driver that is the only issue, but what the general public think.

A driver maybe sitting passively, but if his vehicle attracts custom then that's touting.

Well as is usual regarding this topic we're going to just have to agree to disagree.

I'm even considering becoming a councilor,

You would need the support of the electorate for that to happen.

Since PH was introduced, get yer law book out and get educated, still can't expect a newbie like you to know of such rules.

Save me looking, can you tell me what section of what act says what you say?

I will give you a clue, there isn't one.

Plus any office is supposed to have parking for all cars affiliated to it, something else shoved under the carpet in recent years in the name of Barondome.

Another myth.

It appears not now there isn't, but I can assure you there was such a ruling, and I know because the LO warned me about it 20 years when I was negotiating on an office that had no parking at all, they didn't mind it staying a 15 car company at the time but I was told if it starts to get numerical in future I would have to move the company somewhere more suitable,

Like I said earlier, rules are bent and changed without notification, I've just looked at our terms and it looks more like a flyer for a museum than a legal doc now.

It may have been a local condition, rather than law.

I've often heard this one around here. Whenever you ask them to say which piece of legislation, they never know. Certainly not in our 1982 Act. I often wondered if it was just an urban myth. :-|

Myths in the taxi trade? I don't believe that for a minute - I mean, you certainly won't read any myths on here. [-(

Anyway, the parking myth could possibly be related to a planning condition for an office being set up in a particular area - where parking space is at a premium, say - but those with a particular agenda could then portray the thing as applying everywhere.

Of course, such a condition could apply equally to HC offices as well as PH, but the myth might not extend to that, depending on who's disseminating it :-$

Of course it would, if the HC decides not to rank then it would be under the same rule to return to base if still available to work but unwilling to rank.

Basics of it is, it's pretty well unworkable anyway, you add pollution, increase wait times etc, but whether it was local or national I'm unsure, it was an official rule though at least locally, I can't find anything in the latest rules sheet from the council, so I guess it's either been dropped or neglected to written anymore.
