Using this logic, a council which permits saloon car hacks wouldn't allow any saloon car to be a PH. #-o

You are assuming that your council recognises the shape of the E7 as being why they recognise it a hack. This is unlikely since it's shape comes from the Peugeot van/minibus it is based on, a shape which is identical to the Fiat and Citroen versions and similar to a few others.

It's more than likely that it's approved due to it's specification, rather than recognised due to it's shape.

This is our argument, we have a lot of e 7s as hackney, licensing let 1 through as private, and it's come to our attention that they are putting another 3 on

As far as I am aware St Helens licensing haven't allowed any E7's on as a private hire vehicle (they have allowed one Peugeot ‘Expert’ with an installed partition screen as a private hire.)

Saints cars application to plate six E7's as private hire in St Helens is going to be refused purely on the seating capacity side of things , Saints cars want eight paying seats the council don't.

They are allowed down here. We have a colour coding with the hacks being known as a "Black & White, basically a Black cab with a White bonnet. Having said that an E7 would be allowed in Black as a P.H - no white bonnet.

The Hack drivers would be down on them like a ton of bricks if they saw them trying to do Hack work, and they know it.......so they do not - well, not very much.

The LA will decide, and if it complies it will be accepted, but why change it to HC?

No, they ALLOW the E7 to be a HC, not that it RESEMBLES a "taxi" - which it doesnt - its a box on wheels

Your local hacks need to take a chill pill (once they have extracted heads from arses)

Question for all you drivers out there. Does your licensing authority allow e7 to be used as private hire vehicles, especially if was once licensed as a hackney vehicle. Just had the peak light removed

Every council in Sussex does.

Have seen two to date here in Liverpool, old style e7 and the more recent one. Both have had the decals and top light removed.

I still fail to see the problem licensing an E7 as a PH, its just an MPV with added rooflight

if the arguement is the E7 is used as a hack in the town so shouldnt be a PH, you could say the same for any vehicle plated as a hack apart from "purpose built" (Lti/Freeway) vehicles

what about marc vitos? if one was hack plated would it prevent the PH trade plating one?

Understand what your saying, but in this town I would say 2/3 of the hackneys in this town are e7s, so to let private hire to be able to plate them is wrong, as they resemble a hackney cab

Wouldn't Stop the general public buying them as used vehicles and using them as Private Vehicles...and it'll still look like a Hack.

Under the 1976 act, they should resemble a HC

Haven't got a problem with the general public using them, they don't have a council plate on the front and back
