11.When can I allow an organisation to check my DBS certificate?
When you add a DBS certificate to your
update service subscription it will show that you
are ‘subscribed’. You can then give your consent to allow an organisation to carry out a status check or your continued consent to carry out checks for the duration of your employment.

12.How can I let an organisation carry out a status check on my DBS certificate?
You will need to give your consent and then show them your original DBS certificate.
They will record the DBS certificate’s 12 digit reference number and your name and date
of birth. After this they will go online and carry out a status check.

13. Is the service only available online?
Yes. The service is only available online; however, we may look to see how we can offer
other ways of providing this service in the future.

14.Is there a cost to
join the update service?

Yes. To join to the update service you must pay a small fee of just £13 per year, unless you are joining
with a DBS certificate for a voluntary position.

Nige, ask for a meeting with the DBS officer

I've phoned 7 Councils up round this area and they don't look online for the DBS checks for the reasons stated earlier up in the post. The cost of the software is £6-£8,000.

They are confused, there IS no software to buy!

Mansfield, don't check online.
Newark and Sherwood, don't check online.
Amber Valley, don't check online.
Nottingham City Council, don't check online.
Chesterfield Council, don't check online.
Bolsover, don't check online.
Bassetlaw, don't check online.

All stated that they didn't have the software to enable them to check a person DBS status and didn't have any plans to purchase it.

It doesn't matter how much shaking up you do they can't check on-line unless they purchase the software which is sold by a 3rd party company, you can give them all the information to check but without the software they cant check a thing.

Employers and other organisations

Employers and other organisations can check someone’s DBS certificate status online and get a result straight away.

There’s no registration process or fee for employers to check a certificate online, but employers must:

be legally entitled to carry out a check
have the worker’s permission

Read the detailed guidance for employers.

Welcome to the Update Service. A Status check allows organisations to see if any relevant information has been identified about the individual since their Certificate was last issued. This reduces the need to ask individuals to apply for multiple Certificates if they move from one job to another in the same workforce or when a recheck is required.

Organisations can carry out a quick online Status check to see if an individual’s Certificate is still up to date – saving you both time and money.

Ive emailed them all the same question

Subject: DBS information

For the purposes of a Taxi driver badge

Good Morning, I wonder if you can help

I have a recent valid DBS Certificate and pay the DBS "update" fee (allowing instant checks, etc)

I am told the the certificate is "portable" bewteen authorised bodies (such as your own) and your body can check the validity and updates with the access I can grant you.

Can you confirm please?
thank you

There might be no registration fee but like I've been saying they've got to purchase the software. I'm out of this anyway I've been told by many councils that they need the 2nd and 3rd party software to access the DBS files.

Ive just emailed the DBS dept

Quote:
Good day, I wonder if you could help/advice me

Im a taxi driver abd have had a DBS check, I understand that the certificate is a "once only" portable document (between authorised bodies) and with me taking out the £13/year "update service" i need never take another DBS check?

There seems to be a resistance amongst some licensing authorities to accept the above, some are insisting they would have to purchase expensive software to allow them to access the updates, can you please advise? These bodies are indicating an annual DBS is required.

Thank you

One at Chesterfield said it was some sort of field service software she couldn't remember the name.

Like I've said above I'm out of it.
