Unfortunately mate you are going to get a lot of ..No answers from insurance companies i think

You say your over 25, am 29 last September my first year was summer 2014 when i started.. so as an idea of cost considering i had been driving for 10 years in 20014 with no accidents etc was £3640 (£70 per week) As a new taxi driver the insurance took my personal driving as experience which helped the quote a bit which you don't have.

Your just going to have to ring around even just to get an idea off price get a reg off ebay or from a cab for sale and use this as a guide to pricing thats what i done before i had my badge! think your going to be paying a good £100 though probably more

No one is laughing at your misfortune, it's just that a lot of people come in to the trade (or try to) with high expectations and think it's easy money.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but you should have done your own checks with insurance companies first. You may well be better off finding another job in the meantime and trying again when you have had your licence 2years. The way this job is now ( especially after Christmas ) you may well be better paid at tesco's and no, I'm not joking.

thanks, I know you're not laughing mate. Probably why I've heard from a few drivers that quite a few pack it in after Christmas then. Still, I'd like to give it a go, sick of doing bit time agency work.

Well I've had a look now, not got any quotes because I'm not sure what you've said would work for me because I don't want to own my taxi vehicle or be the main driver, just looking to be added onto someone else's policy and rent their taxi. Was hoping to avoid large start up costs which I can't afford.

This company though, says there's just a bigger excess for "inexperienced drivers" under 24 with less than 12 months driving experience, which is quite funny because I thought you couldn't even get a badge from most councils if you been driving for less than a year.

I think it may be a complete crapshoot as to which insurer on the taxi with the next free shift that the owner has. I'm going to the ranks to ask again tomorrow to see if anything has come up.

I don't know where you are in the uk but you might be best looking at local insurance companies that provide weekly insurance for your town/area only

Around here anyone who rents a private hire vehicle or taxi gets there own insurance the settle (rental) of the cab isn't inclusive of insurance. However a lot over in Liverpool over the water there cab settles are always usually insurance included.

When they say 12 months or less driving experience they probably mean taxi driving experience.

Ok cheers, will ask about the local insurance option. But around here, neither confirm nor deny that I live in Liverpool, it's usually insurance included. The guy I was going to rent (but failed) from said "insurance inc unless my quote goes up, then you pay me the extra".

FFS, yes, you will be the beggar......my insurance is a grand with 7 years NCD, am i moaning?

plus i passed my DVLA test over 40 years ago

apply to Tesco if you cant get a drive

did you ask about a drive BEFORE paying for the badge?......i bet not

oh i see, you just fancied a rant, unable to use the two words "beggar" and "chooser" correctly in an sentence. since you thought to mention your insurance, yeah you are moaning.

I had asked yes about a cab beforehand yes, I was told get your badge first. Who's going to try add you on the insurance if you haven't even got a badge.

how wonderful your son has been promised a cab, as you so clearly say, he's had his driving license for around 5 years, where as I've had mine for 1 year as stated. You may as well have told me that bears [edited by admin] in the woods.

Polar bears must have problems then

A new young driver would have to pay a couple of grand for private motoring
