"Special" operators licenses. Agreed. But I am talking Standard Licences. We have a Standard International, which permits us to operate private hire anywhere. Don't get muddled with "Local Services"

No chance - your meter can only have tariffs on it for the area district its licensed to - your vehicle would not pass its taxi test if other tariffs were on it.

Staffs Man.
2 points
1. in my area when a taxi is tested they only look at the taxi not the meter

2. the previous postings were buses or taxis used as buses.

I didn't think councils that set a taxi tariff could get away without checking the right one is in place.

Fair comment mate - but if the meter ain't checked thats a serious problem cuz people will start charging what they want - This is specific to Hackney vehicles mind, not PH.

In Perth & Kinross we have two vehicles from outwith the area operating on two plates - one Clackmannan the other Angus. This came about when our council decread that all LA contracts must be covered with plated vehicles HC or PHC. These two operators had contracts and then had to dual plate. We have now one WAV plated in Perth but living very close to the boundary with Dundee and he is attempting to have his Euro 7 plated in Dundee as well as Perth he has agreed to install two meters and to operate with the relevant tariff at any one time. Dundee licensing is giving him a hard time but he is not one to give up - it was his persistance (and threats of court action) that forced our LA in Perth to issue an additional five plates a couple of years ago.

I think the best thing is for one council to have one colour, and the other another.
But then again, who is he hurting?
If his vehicle is safe and he is safe, you have to wonder what's the big problem.
Good luck to him.

Do not think you have all the facts RAILWAY.
Not all LA contracts require vehicles to be plated in your area.
Know of at least one chap, non plated who does a large ammount of work, transporting clients from Perth to Dundee and other areas.
No plate or meter.
Also if the lad who is looking for dual plate gets one,I personally, think this
will be a bad move.
He already has a contract from Dundee council, with his HC Perth plate,
now wants to come into Dundee at the busy times Fri/Sat nights.
Come on hard enough times in Dundee with the new Wavs on,do not need
a greedy so and so as well.
I may be wrong, maybe the trade in Dundee will welcome him, with open arms.

Comments from Perth and Dundee,operators?
No swearing though.

North of Dundee, down South Forfar way.

Did you see the pretty picture of all those new E7s in a row in Dundee?

Looked very nice indeed, and none of those new owners was moaning (yet) about too many cars and not enough drivers.
