However, as I explain above, it does have the authority to refuse to grant you a licence if you insist on having the plates on the vehicle. This is what I explained to you during the inspection- it was then open to you to carry out whatever action you wished. Obviously, as you wished to have the vehicle licensed, you chose to change the plates.

There are many things I would go to war (for want of a better expression) for, but license plates isn't one of them.

However, this issue has clearly miffed you so I would ask the council why they have that rule, when it was discussed by councillors, when the trade was consulted on this matter, and when it was implemented.

Or, to use a phrase that seems to be fashionable at the moment, it's not a hill I'd be willing to die on [-(

(Like Sussex's expression, it's another military metaphor, meaning that there's a lot of effort and risk involved over something not particularly important. Apparently it's referring to the likes of Hamburger Hill in the Vietnam War, which was of little strategic value, but was captured by the Americans with great loss of life, only to be abandoned again only two weeks later :? )

So, Mr MWN1989, to let the council know you mean business, tell them it's a hill you're willing to die on  8-[

Personally I'd fit what the Council specify...no point in picking a fight out of vanity.
