basic realy, by the way where did you get the name railway child from?

very apt thats how you sound.

I am astounded at the level of abuse one is subjected to, just for having the temerity to post to this group, with a genuine request to know if any other authority in the country uses the licensing system as a debt collection agency
Anyone in the trade in this area will know exactly where I took the name from and that's all thats relevent to the name

I'm not sure if we are talking about a vehicle or driver licenses.

The initial post does say that a aplication for either licence will only be granted to someone who is upto-date with ther council tax or who are prepared to enter into an agreement to pay up at an agreed rate. Failure to keep up payments will involve the removal of your right to work i.e. the suspension of your drivers badge

Mr Child, please don't a blind bit of notice of him.

Most sites have buffoons, waster, miserable ba*****s, etc etc.

Alas we (and a few taxi/PH forums before) appear to have them all rolled into one.

The sad thing is, I don't actually believe he knows what he is doing.

Maybe it comes naturally to him. :(

I really think they would struggle to justify that in the courts.

But I think the ombudsman way, is a sound one.

Go to their site and download the info and the form. But as has been said, you will have to get a reply from a councillor, as to the council's position.

Sussex
I have had a look at this poll tax and licensing question and it offends article 1 of the first Protocol of the Human Rights Act 1998.

there is indeed case law on it.

so whichever council is doing this should soon be upshitcreak.

At last something practical coming ot of the discussion. Thanks all for your contributions to the discussion. I take it from one of the postings that the Ombudsman has a web site I'll try that.
Please note that this matter doesn't directly affect me as I'm totally up to date because the wife deals with all that and if it was left up to me I wouldn't have time to do such meanial tasks as pay bills I'm too busy posting to sites like this.
My concerne is that this sort of abuse of power may be 'the thin end of the wedge' as I've said to our licensing committee in open forum whats next "your contribution to the Provost's (Mayor's) retiral fund not big enough"
