It seems that many drivers in York believe that Stn Taxis have the power to be the taxi police of the hackney trade, for me they can get stuffed.

many a time I have been sat on a rank, then along comes a Stn driver who taps on your window, hey you haven't got your taxi light switched on

a few years ago a taxi driver [now deceased] found documents in the library archive which clearly showed the the Stn rank is now situated on the old A19 [Selby to Thirsk road] but since then the road having been moved yards away

Just as I thought stinky, now all you have to try and find out is, did the rail company at the time buy the land, or was it just incorporated into the station. If it was the latter there could be just cause in following it through.
Try to find out when the road was moved and when the station frontage was moved if at all, as the road may have run under some kind of shelter.
I suggest that your library may be a good start, find out when the station was built and any further building developments
I grew up in Thirsk and lived there till I was 7, 43 years ago and have just asked my mother and she remembers the road passing the station, and she used to work there, but as you stated it has been moved

its interesting to know that another York Stn Taxi potential court case has cropped up re a certain driver, lets call him Mr X, an independant owner whose cab has been given/sold a stn permit for the year ahead, paid for by his driver, as payment would not be accepted from the owner of the cab, only his driver can now access the Stn rank, Mr X has been given an official Stn Taxis letter from the commmittteeeeeeee of share holders, voted, that finding Mr X not a suitable person to hold a Stn Hire Permit, he doesn't meet their standards, not fit and proper person,

so it looks like a court case is to be brought by Mr X and substancial damages leading into the 10 grand mark, makes me laugh, who are these people who run Stn Taxis, can't be a good setup as every other month someone makes a claim on them
Lets get the facts right here. Mr X owns the vehicle and rents the plate, therefore the licence is not in his name and the permit is issued to the owner of the licence, which they tried to pay for using MrX's cheque, this was spotted by station taxis and refused the licence owner then paid using his own cheque and he and the day driver are allowed in but Mr X has been voted upon as not suitable and at the last rumour meeting had issued notice to all 37 shareholders that he wants £15000 in damages.
