I guess the max penalty someone will receive for working an unlicensed vehicle is one weeks pay.

It is an offence to use a hand-held phone, or similar device, when driving, incurring a £60 fixed penalty fine or up to £1,000 on conviction in court or £2,500 for drivers of goods vehicles, buses or coaches.

Three penalty points will also be imposed on your licence and if you get six points within two years of passing your test your licence will be revoked and you will need to re-sit the test.

Drivers can still risk prosecution for failure to have proper control for using hands-free phones when driving.

The nearest offence actually in the Sentencing Guidelines is operating a PSV without an operator's license.

For a driver the fine is a Band B fine, same if it's an owner driver. If it's an owner company convicted then it is a Band C fine.

What the above means in plain English is one weeks earnings (Band B), and one and a half weeks earning (Band C).

Should an owner company plead guilty, then the final fine will be reduced by 33.3%.

So when I said on conviction the fine would be one week's earnings, I actually meant on conviction the fine would be one week's earnings.

Plying for hire without a proprietors licence presumably? So it's down to "the proprietor". Is that the proprietor of the car, the operator, the driver or the registered keeper? All could be different. Define "proprietor".
