We are doing nothing illegal that is why they can not prosecute us i keep saying it and explaining it but none of you seem to want to believe it once again do you not think we would have been closed down by now if it were illegal.

Do not be fooled by the lying that is going on on this site Grandad it is legal how we do it i have explained a dozen times now do not listen to what the PORKY PIE brigade are saying judge for your self.

Actually I have read my LA handbook and from what I read it would seem that if I did the same in my area it would be illegal.

I'm glad you agree. When are you going to start abiding by the law of the land and cease your illegal activites?

Mr Manchester, it is illegal.

The reason you are being allowed to do what you do is because the 'powers that be' want the public off the streets by fair means or foul.

If your way was 100% fully legal don't you think it would be happening in every city and town in this country.

Your 'ranking' system would only work if the punters where queuing to book in a bona fide licensed PH office.

Not queuing for some mush in a yellow jacket. [-X

I can't believe anyone would do such a thing as what you have without first gaining legal advice.

So could you please tell us who gave you the advice that your operation was kosher, and what that advice was?

The words of the London GMB representative would appear to have a somewhat "hollow ring" about them and no doubt many will go even further and suggest they are nothing more than meaningless. If the GMBPDB can't put this little chestnut to bed without any legal abnormalities, then what can they do?

Wouldnt surprise me if they wanted them to join up thats why they arent doing anything.

As you all well know Pat is the leading member of the GMB in Manchester, its a tad unfair to ridicule the London GMB PDB representative on this issue. I'm sure Pat and his colleges are dealing with this issue. I would say, a case of wait and see, rather the ridicule and abuse.

Maybe this is one of the issues that shows (sort of) clearly why the two sides of the trade can't always be represented by the same union/association.

As I'm quite sure the taxi chaps in Manchester will never except what the PH lads in Manchester are doing.

Mr Gusmac,

As a Private Hire proprietor and a manager of a Company which is predominately Private Hire I have a lot of empathy with Mr Manchester. Without repeating what has been said by both sides, I would say the issue is, are the marshalls breaking the law by booking the cars for the customers. I'm no Button or Maddax and would say as Manchester Council and Manchester Police are not taking action, it is their opinion that no offence is being committed.
This is an issue that will have to be decided in court, who takes this issue up and the subsequent cost will be interesting to see.

Regards
BB

Good Evening Gents and Happy new year.

Lets start the year off right and what ever our arguments i hope all Private Hire and Hackney drivers are still around to join in come 2009.

Be safe.

Well Gents i was working the Private Hire pick up point over Xmas and new year and some thing very strange started to happen.

Hackney drivers pulled in to our pick up point and knowing and abiding by the laws of our trade we did not stop them from doing so and we asked any of the PRE BOOKED customers in the queue if they would like a Hackney cab most said no they had booked a Private Hire vehicle but some understandably who were at the back of the queue took up the offer and we opened the doors for them while they got in to the Hackney vehicle.

The drivers give us a nod we nod back and off they go every one happy and as far as we are concerned we are doing what we are their to do get the club goers home.

Could this be a sign of things to come both trades working togeather we got the impression very strongly that their are a number of Manchester Hackney drivers out their that would like to see that happen.

Certainly the ones that were pulling in to our pick up point would like to see that happen on a friday and saturday night we were left in no doubt about that and it was nice to see no shouting no slagging off both working togeather to find a means to an end in Manchesters problems of getting customers home safely of a weekend.

I am not lying about this i will take the photos and post them to any one that wants a copy when this happens again.

give a PH an inch and they'll start charging £6.00 a mile ! how can the customers be getting home safely if it is all illegal pick ups ?? has anyone thought of contacting any of the insurance providers, norwich union etc, and posing the hypothetical Q...if a PH is involved in an accident after obtaining a hire from one of these so called pick up points..is the insurance valid ????

Well I would hope that both sides always work together, but then again I also believe in the tooth-fairy. :D

Back to the issue, I think the problem is that although it's names of people or firms that are on the top of PH operator licenses, it's in fact the base/home that is licensed.

I very much doubt there is an address in Manchester called 'Mush in Yellow Jacket'.

That aside, happy new year to you and your colleagues.

At the end of the day, what they are doing is illegal!! They are just scum!!!
If they want to pick up off the streets,go get a hackney license and do it properly! I,m sick of PH bleating on about fainess and equality butn they are in different job roles fro a TAXI driver and operate under different legislation!
apart fro that ,have a good new year!
