with the one going taxi emmissions court case appeal in York by Tom Browne , we are being told that any vehicle who do not come up to the euro3 standards will be issued with a tempory licence thats so they can snatch it back as soon as the court appeal is finished if the council win so the question is, is there such a thing as a tempory taxi licence, or are they treading on egg shells, anyone know??????????? |

Our council issue a temporary licence if you have a smash or breakdown and want to use another car for a odd week or so. The plate has a T before the number on the plate. Its a bit pointless really because you still have to pay the full price for the council test. |

That's the important part, they can only issue a license, for a year, if the vehicle is deemed 'fit and proper'. That vehicle doesn't suddenly become not 'fit and proper' just because a court says another vehicle isn't. Now the council may decide not to re-issue a license at the end of the year, but they can't do nothing until then. Unless of course the local trade bend over and take it.

I will be amazed if the so-called temproy license issued by York says 'licensed until the outcome of the court case'. And will not be amazed if it's for a year. If they say it is for a year, then the council will only be able to not issue another license when the year is up. i.e. they can't issue a license for a year and change their minds half way through. |

Doesn't any licence of any persuasion require an expiry date to be valid? What's the expiry date on the York "temporary" licence? |

Can anyone give any information on the Case by Tom Browne (presumed ongoing) or the case in Durham that was won apparently. Your help would be greatly appreciated. |

I have been reading this and wandering why people are so concerned... in Sefton if you licence a vehicle for 12 months and use it for six weeks, you can surrender your licence and will receive a rebate for 10 months.... is this not the case elsewhere... |

On this subject, how many LAs licence from a set date ie in York all taxi licences expire at the end of May vehicle and driver, so if you decide to get a licence in say February you only get 4 months use on that licence but you have to pay for the full year regardles, the same system is used on the private hire vehicles which i think is done in october. |
