I know we've discussed this before but I can't find the thread, so please forgive me for repeating the exercise:

'ABC Taxis' are exclusively composed of Hackney licensed vehicles. If they mix their fleet to include PHV, can they continue using the style 'ABC Taxis?'

In your responses would you be kind enough to include legal authorities, if possible.

If I recall, you only need one hackney to be able to use the term "taxi" with your PH cars.

Here (im sure) the PHV signage rules state a PH cannot carry the words "TAXI" ---- "or similair".

So a PHV cannot work under the style 'ABC Taxis?'

What if it carries no signage or company name bar that required under conditions of licence, e.g. 'pre-booked only,' etc.?

the hackney conditions in Falkirk state "the licence holder must display his name on the rear passenger door" So the PHV's in use by the 2 taxi firms, have the name of the firm displayed, not the proprietor/owner. A point I will be raising at the the next forum meeting.

I might approach a parked up PHV on a "Taxi/HC" radio circuit and ask for a card....


However, that does conflict with this...

so if ABC taxis had PHVs mixed, maybe they can, maybe they cant....who cares?

Could someone please point me to the law that states a private hire firm cannot call itself a taxi company?

Also whilst we're on this, I am regularly behind unlicensed vehicles that have window stickers saying 'Mum's Taxi'. Surely these vehicles and owners are breaking any law too? pmsl :lol:
