If you are a HC driver, and have been FORCED to buy a WAV (or bought one cos it sounded a good idea), can you say here (with a simple yes or no) if wheelchair jobs have covered the extra expense incurred in buying a WAV....

Sefton is literally in two halves..... Bootle.... is where I am..... we have no saloon vehicles..... if you were to plate one you would earn no money.... the good side of a TX1 is that you can carry 5.... and women with prams doing the shopping LOVE them which is the majority of the work in Sefton on days.... every District has its own individual needs... a good taxi driver will cater to the needs of his customers.... But to do that you would have be a businessman... and as it has been pointed out so many times before taxi drivers are not businessman..... :wink:

A big investment is a TX11. i can only think of the following to justify this..

5 seats..
Driver safety..
Longer lifespan than a Saloon..
As for wheelchairs...lucky if i do one once a month..

I was asked the question and I answered it. You don't like it? Tough.

I actively seek wheelchair work, as I have since 1992. Makes sense if you HAVE to have a WAV, as I do.

so far only 3 out of 13 WAV owners seem to have said a WAV was a sensible choice for a new HC, can anyone tell me what the saving is "non-WAV vs WAV HC"?

On a TX around £15-20,000, plus thousands in running costs. :shock:

I am right in thinking when DID-DIS first became law (who was the transport minister we can blame) that only 25% of a HC fleet had to be WAVs?,

The amount they wanted when the act was envisaged was 100%.

And it wouldn't surprise me if in a few months time the DfT bought out regs which would lead to at least 75% being WAVs.

it seems plain stupid (or beurocracy gone barmy) to insist all HCs must be WAVs, with no equivalent requirement that drivers are trained to handle wheelchairs, and there is no HC regulation on the strapping down of wheelchairs (or what door they load through, or which way they should face)
