Post subject:  Insurances
I am trying to find out exactly what kind of insurance i will need for my chauffeur hire business.

I can think of 3 types;
General car insurance
Public Liabilty
Hire and reward insurance

I wonder, am i required to have all three or just one or is there a type of insurance i am missing?

Any advice appreciated.

If I was you I would go to the links page on TDO and have a ring around. It might also be worth you having a look at the trade mags there as well, because most of the big insurers advertise in them.

Don't know which licensing u come under but I certainly have to add to that list, all of which are valid, employers liability, even though I do not employ anyone, PCO insist on it to cover me and my partner even though we are both self employed and therefore could never claim on it.

I would say ask the licensing authority what they want and then supply it, then you can not go wrong.

if you dont even know what insurance you need, do you think you should be in the trade at all?

I see from other threads around this forum that many of you are quick to criticise people operating without proper licensing or insurance. Yet you can only offer flack to someone wanting to make sure they get it right??

The only way to get it right is to get the operators, drivers and vehicle regs, in writing from your local authority.

Each and every one has their own interpretation of the legislation.

With the greatest of respect to the people on here, they will only know about what is required in there own authority, be it for HC or PH.

Follow it and u can't go wrong.

yes we do and its always best to start at the beginning

the begining isnt to announce you are in trade as chaufer driver, now what do I need?

a lot of people on here admittedly willnot be covered for things they do, like letting the wife non badged driver using the private hire car for shopping.

but I ALWAYS THINK ITS BEST NOT TO SET OFF AN ARGUMENT BY TELLING THEM SO.

I am not in trade yet.... mearly researching.

I just thought who better to ask questions to than people in the trade. Apologies if this angers people.... at least this is something i have learn't through my research.

Take no notice of him, he is getting a bit old for this game. :wink:

But if you are new to the trade, or soon will be, it's like any other trade, loads of out goings and not as much in goings as one would like. :sad:

young man not as old as the former accountant that drove taxis masquarading as a tin can that writes for TDO.
