One of Dundee’s wav operators has asked to have a condition on his license removed. The condition is that he has to participate in the council wheelchair taxi card scheme. This scheme is where wheelchair taxi card customers get discount on there fares and the taxi operator claims it back from the council. He has said that it is an unfair condition to ask him to do credit work and wants it removed.

He has said that he has no problem doing wheelchair work but does not want to do credit work.

The council has refused and it looks like it may go to court.

Has anyone come across this before?

This all started because the council had given the other part of the taxi card scheme for the people who are not in wheelchairs to private hire firm 203020.They have a swipe card scheme that is unique to the ph firm. The wheelchair scheme is a paper scheme, the wavs are not happy because they are not able to do all taxi card work just wheelchair work.

The saloon operators do not have the same condition on there license.

I hope I have explained this properly. As you all no nothing is straight forward in Dundee.

has he got a Consumer Credit Licence or has the Council completed an account form (from him) and been cleared by his bank/accountant and a credit limit set?

otherwise the council does not have an account with him and cannot expect credit, and it is his choice to give credit (he could decline thier application)

If it goes to court the council will lose.
