Post subject:  TAXI RANKS; Hackney Carriages v Rank Spaces
The issue of taxi ranks and rank spaces in relation to the number of HCVLs issued by any given LA, or for that matter nationally, is IMO, one of the most important matters for the cab trade at present & for our future.

I wonder what information there is available both locally & nationally about the ratio of HCVLs to rank spaces.

In my view, if the trade is to successfully lobby government for a change in the legislation for establishing ranks from the present 'may appoint stands from time to time' to a more vigorous wording of perhaps, 'shall appoint stands where there is an obvious public need', then these figure need to be compiled, so that the pitiful situation that exists at present can be expossed.

City nightime rank 8 (7pm - 6am)
Railway station rank 8 (most popular so always overcrowded)

40 in total....... Is that good or bad? How does it compare? :roll: :sad:

Is the railway station rank on railway property or on the LA's highway?

Because in my view the LA should not be counting rank spaces that they have not provided on the highway, but that are on private property, probably under a private fee paying arrangement.

And are the city day time ranks limited in time or 24 hour rank spaces?
