Taxi Driver Online

One of our chaps has just changed his car and plated it locally.

However, I spotted a little green and white sticker in the windscreen which I thought I sort of recognised.....Sure enough, it's a London PHV licence expiring July 2010.

My question: Although the vehicle is dual licensed, does a driver need a badge for both areas, even though he is badged for the local area and will not be going to London (We're about 75 miles away)?

I appreciate that he could find himself in hot water if he drives in London without a badge, but what about the local area?

He needs to take those stickers out of the window and return them by post to the PCO.

He is, if the license is still in date, currently driving a licensed vehicle without a driver's license.

Frankly amazed the local LO licensed it, but then again........

Nobody can drive a licensed London PH vehicle unless they have a licensed London PH driver's license.

I very much doubt the chap in darkest Hampshire has one of those.

Agreed, but if he had a London PHDL, would it be illegal to drive a dual plated PH vehicle with PHDLs from both authorities?

Clearly it would depend on the licensing conditions, but I struggle to see how it could be viewed as legal.

The driver would need an operator's license somewhere along the line, and you can't have a London one outside of London and a Hampshire one inside of London.

So whenever a job is sent, the operator will be supplying a job to a vehicle not licensed by one of the councils.

Surely as long as the driver is working for one operator in each LA & receives work from either of those operators, then each operator is covered because the driver is licensed by the same LA as they have their operator licence from.

Not in my view.

I know London don't allow dual licenses, so in this case it is illegal.

As for other areas, many will not allow vehicles to be licensed in more than one area, and the others will question the operator status, others his insurance status.

In the case of the opening post I know if that vehicle goes inside of the M25 the driver will be committing an offence, and could see his car crushed.
