amazed its not be on here before now, THEFT THEFT THEFT

6 taxi plates stolen by 6 drivers who rent plates from owners [a Hull job]

all suspended indefinatly from the Station rank never to set foot in the Station rank again, even tho they have just renewed their permits

Council on the job

other owners who rent out plates are snatching back their plates from drivers who have their own vehicles on, it is reckoned up to 20 odd drivers will be out of jobs or go PH due to the complex of the case of not tying up their vehicles to be registered in the plate owners name

anyone from York know anymore

I thought it was the vehicle that was licensed so if the veichle is owned by a person it must be there plate.

I do not know if I am missing anything, but down here the plate has the reg of the car printed on it......so they have to correspond i.e car & plate belong to each other.

That's the law, however it seems in some areas the law doesn't apply.

This all seems bizarre to me.
I am amazed that any council still allows this to go on !!!

in York you can rent a plate, ie. from any owner or PLATE BARON who doesn't want to work his plate/plates

so the driver goes to one of the above an says can i rent your plate, yes you can that, it will be x number of £s per week

the driver has to supply his own vehicle

the Council will allow this but, the vehicle owned by the driver has to be transferred to the plate owner to say that he is now the vehicle owner, and a bill of sale is supposed to be produced to the Council to safe guard the plate owner

the problem arises when the driver of the vehicle who owns the vehicle in the first place finds that the vehicle is on finance and the plate owner cannot get a bill of sale because it belongs to a finance company

The Council became a bit laid back in looking into the Bill of sale document, a magic number have found this loop hole the same as it went in Scarborough and Hull cases a few years back

plate Barons are now starting to buy their own vehicles, some single plate owners who rent out their plate have now withdrawn their plate from the hirer to safe guard themselves from plate theft

Surly a bill of sale is against the law, the council should not be looking for one, they should be forcing the plate owner to hand it back to them
I may be wrong but its the vehicle that gets the plate not the plate gets the vehicle
I think your council has fecked up big time, and whats to stop a car owner from transferring the plate to his name??

no, but it was a high court case about 15 uears ago and the drivers got away with it, as the plates was on the drivers vehicle owned by them

Do you know the story

each case is individual

After the first claim it opened a can of worms that if you were in that position you have to either do something and protect yourself or

do nothing and except what happens

After this happened in Scarbrough the council changed their rules to stop anyone renting the plate only.

The station are a bunch of bullies and everybody knows that, they are now opening another can of worms by suspending legal hackneys before the council have decided what to do.
The station have broken their own mickey mouse agreement by supporting the plate barons.Bring on Watford decision?
f you do not agree with the station you can appeal to a kangeroo court of like minded taxi drivers on the east coast
