no.......................... merge the two (the public dont understand the difference anyway) modernise the regulations what your suggesting will decrease the available fleet to the public, introduce a waiting time for a plate and give councils a perfect arguement for a massive hike in charges (all the "fixed" charges like wages,etc would have to be covered by a smaller number of plated vehicles) |

Just another thought....What regime controls Trams..is it Bus rules or Rail rules? |

The subject of restricting PH was covered in Taxitalk mag a couple of months ago in the editors section. The principle was for operators to prove that they did have work for the drivers that they took settle from. I'm inclined to be of the opinion that a single system for taxis would be best, containing a mixed fleet to suit everybody's needs. Obviously there would have to be some inbuilt financial relief for those drivers that ran WAV's. The specs on saloon vehicles should be such that they can carry luggage as well as a min of 4 passengers. Limos, wedding cars, funeral cars and novelty vehicles etc would be covered under PH only |

How many plated vehicles now cant carry 4, and luggage is so variable you would end up with everyone being forced to buy a WAV/MPV (just to suite the largest of suitcases) Limos, wedding cars, funeral cars and novelty vehicles etc would be covered under PH only A one-tier legislation could encompass any passenger vehicle and new technology, and very easily, even the "no plate" cars as are already legalised in certain LAs |

Many in the PH trade would welcome it, but I doubt the bosses would concur. However it would never work, as how do you assess the number needed, when in areas like Liverpool most of the PH work is done by cars licensed elsewhere?

It would be for the operator to ensure that they did not take on drivers that they do not have sufficient work for. Obviously there has to be a % set either way to allow for growth but not for greed. With all the technology about now within the PH trade they can be pretty accurate as to the size of the fleet required to cover the number of calls made. They could probably tell you the busiest areas and at what times and days. There really isn't any excuse not to be able to do this |

The last time any new law came about was when DisDis ended up costing so many hacks the price of a WAV and not much need for em... think carefully what COULD happen rather than what you wish WOULD happen (as for financial relief it already exists, its called a VAT refund.... )
