Can everyone help me. I am trying to find out how LA's get the quota numbers they come up with and would like to get an average.
IE in West Lothian a Public Hire license ia alloacated for every 10,000 head of population.

Because I drive a private hire does not make me a tealeaf I have the chance to pickup from the street but I dont. As is the case that if you drive a public hire car you dont automatically steal from punters by taking detours (or do you).

That's one of the highest ratios that I have come across, but deciding on taxi provision by such a route, is both stupid and illegal. [-X

When did your council last survey taxi demand?

Find that difficult to believe, the area controlled by Carlisle City Council has a population of approx 100,000, the same calculation would give us 10 taxis. :shock:

quotas are st we are told to unmet demand, write to Halcrow Fox.

certainly you wont get a rule of thumb.

Ive picked out the following using weerabs calculations;

Liverpool Population 400,000 Taxis req 40
Leeds Population 715,000 Taxis req 71
Gateshead Population 191,000 Taxis req 19
Manchester Population 392,000 Taxis req 39
Mansfield Population 98,000 Taxis req 10
Brighton & Hove Population 247,000 Taxis req 25
Blackpool Population 142,000 Shed requirement 14

If I were you Mr Angel I'd go to the LA tommorrow and advise them theyve licensed 281 taxis too many. :wink:

I dont know about that, on the council website it mentions that

Eligibility

Each application is dealt with on its own merit.

And goes on to say that

Policies

All new taxis must be Wheelchair accessible.
All new private hire cars must provide facilities for the disabled - i.e. a swivel cushion to assist entry and exit or, be wheelchair accessible

It might be a good idea to contact them on the number and just ask them

Note the part that mentions that the applicants will not have the right to appeal as they never commented on the councils policy of limitation.

No Local authority is realy progressive when it comes to disabled people.

now the time has come when all council buildings must be accesible to all, what do we find length and breadth of the country?

building closures particularly public toilets, where there are steps and grand sales to the private sector.

and they preach to us?
