Does anyone charge a pick up charge for a job that is 4 mile away and only going round the corner?? We don't. With fuel prices like they are we can't afford to keep doing this, travelling all that way for a job that's going a hundred yards round the corner with no job to bring you back, the price for this work would be £2.80, after that you've got to come all the way back empty.

If the Job is within your area and going to a place within your area, and your HC, you cant, unless you have a telephone booking fee on your farecard.

Then I'm afraid you'll either have to do the work as per metered charge, or refuse it.

Am I right in my interpretation of the above in saying that in that case it was a "Hackney vehicle" being used as a "P.H" vehicle/job and therefore it was/is termed illegal to charge a higher fare if out of town.

However if it were a "Hack" and the driver stated the same out of town fare............then it would be totally different, and not illegal?

I think your interpretation is incorrect. Only a private hire car can charge any price whilst working within the district. A hackney working within the district must use the meter from the pick up point to the drop off point.

I agree with what you say. However I am thinking that not many Cities will have a fare that costs £32 from one side to the other, so I was assuming that the case was for a fare taking it outside the bounderies. My question is basically for a "Hack" going outside the area/boundery.

I fail to see why PH are supposed to be of use in this case compared to a HC, i wouldnt go 5 mile to do a 1 mile jobe and neither would i if i were a HC with a meter and rooflight, ok a PH "could" add a charge, but would the punter pay it?.............maybe, but do i wanna do it? maybe not

When I was Forton and called a local PH company they charged from the office to collect me and then to where I was going, which was all on one mile. The cost of the fare was £8. Apparently this is the norm in the more rural areas. Although having spoken with HC drivers who said they wouldn't do this it seemed terribly unfair to have them drive so far for such a short distance

Yes it is their choice and their choice was to charge me from the office. It was my choice to accept that charge.

With regards to 'fair' I was merely expressing my view. As a driver myself I considered my options and decided that I wasn't going to ask a HC to make the long trip to me to only go 1 mile down the country lanes

Going outside your prescribed area allows you to agree a price before the commencement of the journey. If you dont agree a price then the metered fare should be charged.

You do know that South Kesteven are the only council that deregulated fares.

Because they de-regged they no longer have to ask for objections to be lodged and drivers can suit themselves what level they charge>

How well does that work?
