Had a bit of a run in with some clown last night who kept on going on about why the "fookin" meter was going up so "fookin" fast compared to when they went into "fookin" town - you know the type - even though I'd told his mates what the fare was up front and they seemed OK about it.

I said that I didn't know of a council in the land that didn't set a higher taxi tariff for later at night.

He replied that his dad was a 'taxi' driver back home. I asked him if he was hackney or PH and he said his dad worked for a company, so no help there then.

But is there any council that doesn't set a higher rate for late night taxis?

Are there PH firms which don't set a higher tariff late at night?

I suspect the answer to the first question is 'no', but I'm not so sure about the PH aspect.

There is one firm in Adur that charges no extras.

No night rate, no Sunday rate, and it would appear no spewing rate.

I'm sure there'll be a PH company somewhere that doesn't but I'd think the majority do. They certainly do here :D

Aberdeen is £1 more between 10pm and 6am, with another £1 more between 2am - 5am on Sat/Sun mornings.
These are flat charges applied to the starting fare.
Mileage rate is the same as through the day.

Firms that don't set a night surcharge are doing us a favour.

I've encountered this problem recently with contractors at the local power station not wanting to pay time-and-a-half because they don't pay it "oop North" where they come from. Then in almost the same breath they boast about earning £1200 a week....

It's common with PH firms to charge a flat rate but not HC and virtuallly all licensed vehicles here are HC.

Hi, I am new  drive a HC but have a combined (HC & PH) badge.

Anyway, my licensing authority Middlesbrough, have no extra (HC) charge we do have a tariff 2(+1/3rd) but its only permitted to be used during bank holidays.

This was brought on by our biggest PH company who stopped the extra change after midnight.
