Post subject:  LA Refuse to Licence a Vehicle Because of High Mileage
Our LA recently wrote to us all saying that they were refusing to licence vehicles with High Mileage. I called them today to find out the criteria and they told me when you first licence a car it can only have 10k miles a year on it. So my two year old car with 41k on it is no good and they wont plate it. Anyone know if this is right. 10k a year is not realistic sureley, my 17 month old Doblo has already done 83k and i consider 20k a year to be low, any thoughts ?.

They just rang me and changed their minds, if it is under five years old it can have any mileage but if it is over five years old it is recommended that it has under 10k miles per year, but if it is a specially adapted vehicle ie WAV or Limo it can be as old as you like and can have as many miles as you like. Cheapest option is a 20 year old bus with a tail lift bolted on the back me thinks !!!!!

Is the policy in writing & passed as a policy by your LA's Licensing Committee?

Or as I suspect it's a Sonia's Law out-take?

Has this been passed by the council?

Were the trade consulted?

When they updated our licence conditions a couple of years ago (it was really old fashioned here) they said there had been a public consutation but no one seen any evidence of this. Now they act like proper jobs worths, is it normal for the LA to measure your seats when you licence/re licence and take a picture of the car with the operator sat in it. Now there is talk of removing our 30% discount we get if we have a WAV.

"Clocking" is illegal if you sell a car I believe (but I could be wrong) - removing or stopping the odometer would guarentee that any vehicle could be plated - then you run it into the ground and scrap not sell it.

What a bl**dy stupid rule!
