i am a aylesbury hackney cab driver i have been for 15 years our hackney work is ok at the moment but 1 concern our drivers have to face is the illigal tradin when private hires take unbooked fares from our rank that is illigal but the genral public dont care so the message i want to put out is that why PH do this. |

Because the LG (MP) Act 1976 made all PH licensed & respectable. Before that when PH was unlicensed & unregulated, they were few & far between. I was about in those days on car hire as it was then & you kept your head down low. Now that they are licensed as PH, anything goes with most of them, because they have the repectability of being licensed. |

Have you got a phone with video capture? If so use your phone to take videos of these drivers picking flaggers up and hand it into your LO. |

Some PH do this because they can feel safe in the knowledge that your licensing officers are tucked up in bed. Have proper enforcement and the number of illegal pick ups will diminish. |

You forgot to remind us on this thread that your Aylesbury Vale plates are worth a reported £80-90K. Then you tell us on this thread that PH in your area are nicking 'Hackney work'! Are you getting my drift?? Hackney punters standing on a cab rank will not wait all night for you & your HC mates to come back to take them home after you have done your first 47 jobs of the night. Or worse still, to wait until you or one of your mates get up the next morning, because your pockets were full of money the previous night so you decided to call it a day & went home to bed. If the HC plate is worth £80-90K, then there must be a reason for that. If PH are 'stealing' street work, instead of HC picking that work up, then there must be a reason for that. The bottom line is that the HC trade needs to provide a good public service & it would seem that they may not be providing a GOOD service to the public. As the saying goes, 'be careful what you wish for!' |

Nothing wrong with raising concerns, but it's the assumption that all PH are at it that I think you need to reassess. The public are always covered when PH pick up illegally, but you do have a point re your income at threat. But times have changed and people will just get into whatever is the nearest. Not excusing it, but that's the reality. |
