Taxi Licences should be issued by a Natinal Licensing Authority and the conditions should be clear as what and can not be done.

The power of Councils to issue licences should be abolished and replaced with this Agency.

That way all types of cars plying for hire or rward would no the rules and the fire engines and the stretch limo would have to get a licence.

Councils make up rules without putting thought into the subject.

What do you think?

It would be nice, but do those good folks in the sticks need the same type of vehicle as they do in the Citys?

Who would you also go about a knowledge test for drivers?

So when something goes wrong I will have to speak with an office perhaps hundreds of miles away?

So to negotiate fares I have to deal with civil servants who have no idea what its like where i work?

Oh yes, and those nice people in the country that like limited taxi numbers would presumably love the idea too. Still, at least one good point  hehe

Whose rules do you pick to suit, ours with a three year on first license and seven year subsequent* (exemptions given if your face fits naturally)

And whose vehicle types do we pick? the PCO's? As good** as TX2's are, there a waste of time in he countryside and for distance work.

**by as good I was being ironic

regards

There would be 2 types of licences PICK UP in the Street and PHV. No one would start working in an area he did not know.

The Agency would have power but all would clearly know were they stood

:P

Mr Pickup, for some reason when you quote something it doesn't come up as a quote. Quite why I'm not sure, because it does become a quote when someone else quotes it. :?

So could you please not quote a quote, because it doesn't come across as a quote, and confuses the hell out of me.

Mr Pick up,

You are correct and it would make it a lot easier, but then where would our fun be? (ironic end to the opening sentence).

The point is with legislation it is developed as to how locals want to see it work already, it works well in most of the country.

There is a grievence section in the act to boot.

If we want a dramatic change in taxi and PHV licensing we should look towards the T&G's single tier system (be prepared to count), it is comprised of one tier of licensing which is as follows.

1, Taxis
2, Greater control over private hire

(two tiers but hey, I never drove a bus either)

mr pickup, you I can see are going to be a problem you think too much

how about all hackneys being dealt with by the same agency?

how about it having regional offices to have local knowledge?

how about people who can have discretion?

how about calling these people commissioners?

and lets call the agency VOSA?

Try using the quotes again Mr Pickup, they may work now.

I know the VOSA setup but I do think there should be a national agency for Taxi Licences

so inspite of all the potential flaws, some of which have been pointed out, you think we should have another tier of unanswerable civil servants.

everybody is entitled to their opinion, but i beg to differ.

well it would wipe out taxis in most of the country so maybe Sussex would aggree with you.

I will tell you why, that would mean that we would have to have national rules, lets look at London where a third of the nations taxi rolling stock is,
there to be a driver takes about 3 years and a degree course.

where the hell would that lead us to? 3 years poverty to get several more years on top?

whilst I aggree that the likes of LAs are exasparating, lets look forward to something workable

what you picture is not believe me.
