The Minister told Naleo's Conference last week that the meter should only go on once the WAV punter was loaded and ready to go, not when you pull up. I think he is wrong, and the meter should go on just before you get out of the cab to get the ramps ready. Who's right? |

As far as I am aware the meter is supposed to start when the journey begins. If you start the meter before that time then the disabled punter is being charged more than an able bodied punter and as such I believe this is against the DDA. |

Having said that we feel that we should be paid for our time so some break the rules. The downside being is that through this piece of legislation many drivers will not stop because their families come first and they have to earn, and then the person who needs that vehicle wonders why no one will pick them up  . Unfortunately it is a catch 22 situation...........The authorities do not want to pay, the punter does not want to pay, and the driver does not want to lose out.

If you get stuck in traffic with a WAV customers do you charge them the same rate you would do with a non WAV customer not stuck in traffic, for the same route? If you are at an airport and the plane is delayed do you charge waiting for a non WAV punter, but not a WAV punter? |
