206sw Licensing Problem

Post subject:  206sw Licensing Problem
One of the lads has just bought a 206sw for private Hire.

The council are refusing to license it on the grounds that it has a window at the back which is tinted and it is only allowing 12% light through when the legal limit is 75% or summat.

So the lad is stuck with a brand new car peugeot main dealers say no normal glass window is been produced.

Anyone had a problem getting their council to license one of these ?

Surely if it's illegal, then why has it been approved?

If it doesn't meet national standards, then surely it shouldn't have been sold. I also have my reservations that a clearer design is not available.

I would suggest he rings Peugoet UK's HQ.

Tinted windows pose a problem that if the passenger is being molested by the driver,no one would be able to see this happening,and therefore passenger could be abused,physically and sexually.
Tried to put on a Wheelchair Accessible private hire years ago,with tinted windows,thinking this would give the wheelchair customers some privacy,while being carried,but this was the answer given????????????.

I have factory fitted tinted windows all round but you can't tell till the sun shines, There is a Kia Sedona on the ranks with vertually blacked out windows which show up dark all the time from the outside.

Back [rear view] window is not covered under the light test, am led to believe

I think the construction and use regs only apply to the windscreen and front side window, so you can have whatever you want in the back two side windows (not sure about the rear though), indeed presumably you wouldn't need the back two side windows at all - it's called a van :lol:

So presumably the rule being complained about is the LA's, but it's clearly nothing new, as paul makes clear.

The Galaxy problem has been mentioned on here before - didn't Checker Cars at Mancheter Airport have to replace the back windows in all its Galaxys?

But once again this shows the nonsense of each LA making up its own rules.

The best bet is to tell you LA that other LAs do license such vehicles, but failing this the only option is to seek legal advice.
