](*,) Recently I reported a local taxi operator(very loose title) for operating his cars on xmas eve 2004 before 10pm on rate 3. He should have only been on rate 2. This was in the afternoon not at 10 to 10 by the way. I took photos and took them to the police only to be told "nothin to do with us its a civil matter see your council" So waited till new year hols were over and took photos and written complaint to them.
The council wrote in the local press that they were taking the matter very seriously and that the drivrer was reminded of his resposibilities (aknowledging that it took place.yes?) but then proceded to say insufficient evidence was in place to take the matter further. "time /date stamped photos !!!"
I also reported the very same bloke for opperating his euro 7 all weekend without a plate as it had only just come out of the repair shop but not in time to have it tested on the Friday night. Same story Police didnt want to know and the council said "No evidence"I feel as though im in a hick south american town with a bent sherrif who is this blokes best mate" this guy is a menace and he will do something dangerous but noone is pulling him up. ](*,)

No your council isnt neccessarily on back handers they just dont have the evidence.

First of all you probably are in the trade and would make a very poor witness.

And If you showed pictures of a driver accepting money? for what?

how do you proove the taxi was working?

you are a nightmare for councillors and drivers alike, frankly you should put that camera away and get on with your work.

I think you need to get more witnesses to these actions before your council can act.

Let's face it people get away with murder nowadays, so if the your chap gets away with overcharging and running un-plated, it's shouldn't be no real shock to anyone.

](*,) Well sorry for wanting a safe honest environment for trade and punters, where you can get in a cab without wondering if its plated or if you are getting stiffed on price.
Hope you will not be complaining if your wife/girlfriend/daughter.takes a ride in an unplated overcharging cab.
Cos after all people get away with murder.
No probs then!!

i think the lads were trying to tell you how it is.

I'll give you an example...

I know a driver who was reported by a colleague for using a mobile phone while driving.....result, same as you found, sweet FA.

Another guy was reported for the same thing, by a member of the public.....result, taken in front of the LA, found guilty, made to resit his driving test.

now, were these people trying to help you or hinder you?

Well what would you have wanted me/us to say?

Would you have liked us/me to say that your LO or police are at it? Would that have made things better?

You need real evidence, a photo is evidence of a photo, nothing else. Witnesses that will turn up in court is a must, alas it seldom happens.

The only way to get things out in the open is a letter to your local newspaper, but I doubt they will name names. :?

So how did you know he was overcharging and what evidence of this did the photos show?

Is it quite in your area then????

I'm amazed you have the time to spend wondering about other people's business, not really getting at you in person, but where we are we also have "taxi policemen"

does tarrif 3 come in at that time in your manor, ours starts as soon as the buses finish, 1900 hrs xmas eve [think]

we have "taxi policemen" [cab drivers]reporting the slightish thing, dirty car for instance, not picking up etc etc chuffing hell, it was washed before shift, first job down a dirt track, next thing the cab police report you to the council, telephone call, can you come down the council to have your vehicle inspected, it was seen dirty yesterday

me thinks you should leave well alone and get on with your own business, you never know whilst you sleep some other comes along and chucks brake fluid onto your motor, it's just not worth trying to be a do gooder, stuff em let em get on with it.

oh dear you do have it bad!

you do it with a vindictive mind, and vicimise licensing to accusing them of a serious illegal act.

without a reasonable belief of that situation existing!

if you dont like something contact the police with as much detail as possible.
