What is the law, with appropriate citations if possible please, regarding the use of meters in the following circumstances: 1. Starting of the meter at or after a booked time, regardless of whether the passengers have boarded. 2. Non-use of the meter on a fixed price job that terminates outside the licensed area. I'm a little concerned about advice that is being given to some drivers. Many thanks, team. |

Many thanks, team. 1 - Give em 10 minutes max and either pull away or (if they are messing) put the clock on 2. yes no maybe.....you have to start the meter i thought....on all trips starting in your LA |

so if you pick up say a couple of people in HC, they give the destination [within the prescibed area] a little down the road, one says i will be getting out here, thanks, the guy who is getting out says, "how much will the total be driver to get my mate home cos i am paying for the other person to carry on its on the meter, ok says the person getting out, just give us a price, not so sure what it would be, but quoted him high, a tenner should cover it i says, at the end it came to £8.60, is this legal or not, i cant give the change to the person left in the vehicle as its not his change, your thoughts |

I always cover myself by asking the person giving me the money if they want me to give any change to the person left in the cab, that's usually followed by a 'nah don't worry about it'. |

when i was hacked/metered the LAs regs were that the meter should always be used. |

Law of contract. You have been booked to do something at sometime. You are there at the right time, and right place, therefore you have done your part of the contract. If the customer isn't there that's not your problem. The price is set by the council, and as long as you don't exceed the council set rate then you are 100% legal. |

Section 66 of the 1976 Act allows you to charge what you like as long as it is agreed before you leave. |
