hi all...
I am a hackney carriage proprietor and wish to sell my hackney carriage and plate to a driver who is renting a plate fron another proprietor, the problem is licensing dept wont transfer it cos the driver buying plate his vehicle is over 4 years old now, and vehicles have to be under 4 years on 1st presentation, but seeing as the vehicle is already licensed should it not be a transfer

You can sell the cab as it belongs to you but the plate does not, its the councils

no problem

he can "rent" yours.......

cant he......

(car and plate)

and vehicle stays in your name technically

in fact your car and plate to his name should be a simple transfer (£65 here)

whats his car worth, whats yours worth......swaps?.....

more than 1 way to skin a cat

The council is talking out of their rears.

The 1847 act only states that you must inform the council within a specific period of time that a transfer has happened, so in effect they have no control over who you sell to.

Ask them to point out which law stops you transferring your vehicle.

However if you don't want a ruck then just add the fella to your license, and in a month or so take your name off.

this is the scenario
i am vehicle 1
buyer is vehicle 2
vehicle 2 already has a plate on it, but he is not the owner of the plate, so he is going to take plate of vehicle 2 and give plate back to its owner, we then want to put plate from vehicle 1 onto vehicle 2, but vehicle 2 is more than four years old

the LA is only sticking to its own regs

what you have to do is find a workaround

the LA may not like it but if you are inside the regs tough

they could but the LA would object, the reg numbers would be wrong on the plates....

Aren't the council the owners of the plate?

Is this is a by-product of restricting HC plates then?

or a side effect of the age rule?

or both?

Post subject:

No restricting here you just have to pay a lot for a hackney and no age limit if your cab is in excelent condition.

Obviously the the OP is in a restricted area with an age rule of 4 years old max for 1st plate
