How many taxi ranks have a sign that say's for taxis que here and use the first car, We dont in the in the borders and jo public can just jump into any car on the rank, on a weekend when the clubs come out the animals just block the road and its just a free for all
Iv even had punters pulled from the car.
We have tryed untill we are blue in the face to get the council to erect a sign but they wont do it, and there are to many weekend tax avoiders to be able to take action
Any idea's

We have a kind of code on our main rank, the first cab does the job, even if the customer doesnt want the first cab!

our council have just developed its main rank, basically its a cobbled lane a taxi width with ornamental posts by it.

you can get in from a paved area from either side of the vehicle, and indeed you can choose anycab you like, however

its physically impossible to get back cars out until the front cab moves off.

this rank when you are on you are on and cannot get off until forward cars move, this rank also has a feeder rank.

What I was on about was does any council erect a sign of any discription at the front of the rank, and not just paint the word taxi on the road.
And no I could not take the weekend off, miss out on the best time (well it may only be sat) the rest of the week being crap, and a saterday being the time when the tax dodgers come out to play after earning 3 to 400 £ per week at there own jobs, and a council that will not restrict the numbers (67 at the last count) I could write a bloody book but whats the point the trades well and trully buck up

I recently waited well over three hours in mine

But who says you have to do prebooked work?

Anyway, my point was clearly about legislative change, radical mind you, but in some countries HCs can't do pre-booked work.

Isn't there LAs here that have tried it, but the courts have said no?

Please don't tell me that some cars rank up pointing the other way.

One of our ranks in St Andrews faced the wrong way until a few years ago, the problem was that if you faced the right way some plonker might come along and face the wrong way, and since these was nearer the punters they tended to take it. But a few years ago it turned round to face the right way during the day, not sure why but maybe the police said so, but it still turns round at night because thats whene people are more likely to take any car. But after 11 or so theres little point sitting here anyway because the cars sit 50 yards up the road at the pub and takeway where most of the fares come from. The main rank at night is unofficial, and a lot of the cars won't move up because they know that it helps them get runs, some even join the back of the rank two or three car lenghts from the back car in the hope that it gets them a job first. The worst bit is the students union, which is halfway up the rank. The punters are even worse, couldnt' queue to save themselves, but they work on the same principle as the greedy drivers, ie if they stand away from the queue they hope to get a taxi first. Someone was recently convicted for assualt at this rank because of an argument over the who was first for the taxi, hardly surprising. Skippy, have you told your council how the lack of a proper queue causes trouble?

well of course pre booked work is covered by the act, we have to do it, however if a rank taxi from the main rank wants it it has to move to the front first it doesnt take long!
