hI ,
New to this taxi game and lookin for advice on edinburgh black cab taxi test .

Still worth while or not ?

Is the money still in the game heard so many stories from drivers whilst sittin as a passenger about it not being worth the problems and long hard hours that is needed now to even take home £300 a week ,Then you hear of others bringing in £600-£800 a week and loving there job .

Driving is something i have always wanted to get involved in at some point and being ur own boss ie. own taxi and licence sound the way forward for me but is demand really there to support a family ...... thanks any advice is welcome

This thread, as you mentioned Edinburgh, will turn into a bit of a bin feast, so don't worry it's not down to you.

To answer your question the more unsocial hours you work, the more you will earn, but you will have to give a considerable amount to the fella who owns the cab.

Thanks sussex .....

sorry didnt know edinburgh was a soft spot on this board just came across the site tonight . you any idea on what amount of money could be made say on a average monthly basis on say a 60 hour week ? Doing about 60_70 hours a week in my current job so long hours on days or shifts wouldnt be a problem .

You any ideas on ruff rental price on a weekly basis for a cab in the area ?do u know off any guys previously posted on a board you have came across mentioning if the edinburgh taxi demand is still there ideally looking to bring home about 350-400 a week

not sure what someone in the game would class as a bad week or a good week ....... sorry for the 50 questions just trying to build up the pro's and cons off the game .

In fact you could be talking about the same figures here if "bringing in" means takings, because after rental and fuel takings of £700 probably wouldn't leave you with much more than £300.

Thus it's possibly just the difference between 'half empty' and 'half full', no difference at all really except for optimism or pessimism.

Or perhaps the braggarts like to state takings as their income rather than what's left. In fact many of the braggards in the trade will barely be taking half of what they claim :---)

Oh and I'm not sure why you posted this in the licensing and legal section, but to that extent Sussex could be wrong because I don't think the Edinburgh rabble tend to stray too far from the Scottish section, but I notice Skull seems to be wandering around a bit more of late :D

You WANT to be working 60 hour weeks ?!! Most cabbies are complaining that they HAVE to work those hours to make ends meet.

They both could be correct but are they working the same number of hours ? The £800 guys could be doing 60 hours and the £300 just 30, you need to compare like for like. Remember you're not on a fixed weekly wage but a variable hourly rate so the income is down to the time you put in, if the wheels ain't turning you ain't earning !

god, if was earning that much I would be feeling wealthy. After deductions Im lucky to make £30 a day ! Ive never been so poor. Ten years ago I had never seen so much money, just goes to show what recessions can do for you.
