Taxi Driver Online

I've just received my renewal papers for my badge which expires on the 28th of Feb 2012 and once again I've got to have another yearly CRB check at a cost of £39.

I've written loads of letters explaining to them that we only need them every 3 years but it just falls on deaf ears, they want us to have one every year because some ding bat 10 years ago decided to get himself into trouble with a Road Rage incident and not tell the Council for 3 years. When they found out we all had to suffer the yearly tests.

Any ideas how to make them go back to 3 yearly CRB checks instead of lumping us with an extra £39 on top of our already outrageous badge fees?

But what can you do if (like mine) they say you have to have an enhanced check, albeit three yearly ? You can mention the court case and the letter and they just shrug and ask for the money or no badge

you could contact the CRB service and ask them about the enhanced check, maybe even the local government ombudsman.

Write to the DfT asking them for their view on yearly CRB checks.

Do the same for the CRB people, especially in view that your check must have been an enhanced check, and ask them to withdraw the council's authorisation to do these checks if they keep insisting on yearly checks.

OK I'll do that first thing in the morning, does it mean we don't need another CRB if we've had the enhanced as long as we stay in the trade?

Correct, you are now issued a number and that number can be used if you change jobs, and that job requires a check, the new employer just puts the number into the comp on there web site and they can gain access to your file

I think he wanted you to point him to the specific article telling him such.

I would ask them what piece of legislation says a) you need a check every year, and b) you need a check ever again, all the time you are licensed by the same council.

As the police are required to automatically send details of convictions/cautions to the council.

When you get the reply, if it's not the one you want, then follow the advice about complaining to the Ombudsman.

THIS WAS FOR THE ISA REGISTRATION WHICH WAS SCRAPPED - STILL THE FORMAL CRB APPLICATION PROCESS AT THE MOMENT.

It's a valid point, but should the driver attend court and be found guilty, then he will have to fill in an income form, and give his employment details.

They should then be passed onto the council.
