What is the problem? Why would you not want to show them your badge? It prooves that you are in fact a licenced driver and not a scum bag posing as a licenced driver. |

So why do i have to produce and give details to another licence authority just because i am picking up in that area?, yes they had police with them but i do not understand why the licence authority (not mine) need my details. I was told (not by the police) that if i didnt give my details i would be done for obstruction, is this the case. Your badge should be on display or around your neck, so I'm surprised they couldn't see it. If a policeman asks your details then give them to him, and if you have concerns that the police will abuse those details then write to the Chief Constable asking for them to be deleted. The reason the police stopped you was due to there being an increased number of drink drivers and illegal PH/taxi pick up this time of the year, surely you would wish both to be stamped out? |

not a good idea to upset cops, LO's or even punters this time of year, 2 weeks suspension would ruin your takings..... |

Nothing is wrong with my badge or my car, i just dont know why i need to give another licensing authority all my details, why does he need to know who i am its nout to do with him. I gave all the details i was asked for btw and im still on the road. the original post was a question. It does depend hwere you're from, some councils have delegated power to licensing officers from other areas.....its common across Merseyside and Bedfordshire. CC |

CC Of course, that's not relevant as far as police per se are concerned, although it's not clear to what extent in this case it was the police and/or LO that was doing the asking. |

I thought it was reasonable to suggest from his post that he was more p*ssed off with the council official than the copper. CC |

Yes, but clearly he's going to be pished off whatever happens. His question was specifically about whether the LOs and/or the police had the legal right to do what they did. |

Well the rozzers do.....and according to the model conditions you have to stop for a police officer......as for the LO in another area, I'd say not, unless of course theres been an agreement like in the places I already mentioned. That being said, if a person was verbally abusive to the LO from another area, even though he didn't have the power to ask for identification etc......I'd suggest the LO could report him to his own council and leave any action to them. Yes, you/I/we concluded that earlier. |
