Sometimes you need a yearly MOT, but in many cases an exemption sheet is given out, but check with your local council when licensing the vehicle. |

Yes if you're going to use the vehicle whilst not working, hardly makes a difference to the premium though. The MOT depends on the conditions set by your LA, some have 'compliance' checks so no MOT needed, others just have the yearly pit and still need the MOT. edit; Just seen Sussexs' post. If the insurance is just 'hire and reward' then you are not covered if using the vehicle whilst not working, you need the 'Social Domestic Pleasure' inclusion for private use. |

Maybe cheaper just to charge the Missus a fare for the run to the Shops or to declare your on route to a pickup in the event of an accident.. Whos to say what the Vehicles being used for...If your travelling back empty after a run then that cant be construed as Hire and Reward..its just you going home. |

Just had A squint at both my policies...Social, Domestic and Pleasure are Included on them....Id have thought that would have been normal practice. |

It's the purpose the vehicles being used for, running empty or going home at the end of a shift - it's still classed as hire&reward, you're not using it for private use it's part of the normal business practice. Most of the time you'd be ok with just the H&R, problems arise when the insurance co. asks the company if you were working at the time, backed up by call records, data logs etc. Or when for example a Brighton cabbie has an accident in the highlands and happens to have the rest of his family with him (if it's serious then the fire/police/NHS will all have records which the insurance company will be able to see). Of course all you have to do is log-on/make yourself available for work and then refuse any jobs sent to you ! |

Not so sure about that, depending on where you live in relation to where you work - could be classed as private use. |

Indeed that was what I meant - travelling to and from work. The taxman would probably also disallow some expenses for private use in such as scenario as well. |
