something like.... "There have been several letters to this paper in recent months concerning how much taxi's charge by way of fares, maybe the complainant should consider how much they would charge when, apart from diesel rising 50% in price in 18 months, my annual £160 plating fee in August only got me a plate till the end of January as my car is then too old to be plated according to the council, too old unless i pay a FURTHER £160 when suddenly it ISNT to old (as Paul Daniels might say "now THATS magic"). My car (2006 registered) is in very good condition, always serviced and of only slightly higher than average mileage, and if THE COUNCIL would maintain the roads it would be even better. Add on my £140 driver badge and £40 operator licence not to mention £1600 insurance and that £10 fare doesnt looktoo bad, more a drop in the ocean" |

So I can take my "old banger" for a compliance test now, having had it "inspected" by the LO, and having paid £160, it will need another test in 4 months (and another £75) and then one 4 months later ( ANOTHER £75) so for operating a 2006 car i have to pay almost TWICE the plating fees.... if it costs £75 to produce a plate and test for FOUR months, and the LO can only charge what costs they incur, how come the normal YEARS PH plate costs £160?.... |

I think you will find that it is drivers badges that can only be charged at the cost. |

Anyone? Can a Licensing Authority make a profit from processing PH/HC vehicle plating? |

wannabeeahack wrote: Anyone? Can a Licensing Authority make a profit from processing PH/HC vehicle plating? Define profit? They can charge what they like for plates and operating licenses but the overall revenue for all licensing duties is not supposed to create a profit. So if your licensing operation costs £1 million providing they dont take in over that, they are in the clear. Our licensing department are still working at a loss. |
