They say that only quotas ensure high levels of vehicle standards.

Clearly they forgot about de-limited Derbyshire Dales.

POLICE PRAISE TOWN'S TAXIS

Police have announced that they were "pleased" with the condition of taxis in Matlock, after an organised vehicle check.

Officers from Matlock Police Station, road policing officers and the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency joined ranks on Friday, to carry out a check of the taxi fleet operating in the Matlock area.

Officers on patrol stopped vehicles, or spoke to drivers on taxi ranks and accompanied them to the police station for a check. No vehicles with fare- paying passengers on board were stopped.

In total, 25 vehicles were checked and although 14 of them were given defect notices, these were for minor reasons, with only two needing immediate attention.

Sergeant Jim Allen, of Matlock Police, said: "This was the first time in some years that an organised check has been conducted in the Dales.

"I was very pleased with the general condition of the vehicles. Only minor issues were identified and none affected the safety of passengers. I was also very impressed with the attitude and co-operation of the drivers involved."

Shouldn't that have read 'proven shocker faults'. :D

But Captain is entirely correct, since although I've never seen any proper analyis of such figures, they don't seem particularly good.

But I suspect the spin comes as much from the police press release as from the newspaper.

I'd like to think I was wrong and the press had changed a leaf, I doubt it though. eusasmiles.zip

Sussex's sentiments are correct though, and I wouldnt blame anyone for countering the T&G argument with headlines such as that.

Justification is justification, no spin no bs
