So you have one of those daft councils that waist money producing new plates every year
Once ours are past we can continue working they just post out the paperwork, I have had the same plate for the last 18 years
If we change vehicles we just swap the plate, and everything else over, take it for a test and keep on working

On vehicles over 8 years old we need 2 tests per year but the plate is still for 1 year.

The plate is not the licence?

OK, plate/vehicle licence, same thing here

over 6 years old, pay £160 (or £240 if less than 2 weeks left) then £75 after 4 months and another £75 after another 4 months

it takes Nottingham city council 29 seconds to make a plate,so 14 days seems a long time?

They are very quick in Nottingham. I have watched them make the plates.

Our council say if you don't have your plate on your vehicle you have no 'm.o.t' as the plate shows it has a certificate of compliance so unless you have a seperate m.o.t then it's illegal to drive said vehicle

You want the whole story as to why they said this so you can say at the end of it that our council are idiots. Why would I do that to myself?

I dunno, a perverse pleasure perhaps?

I aint read too much of the thread, but a license is issued for 12 months by an LA......a coc is issued for 12 months......if a chap removes his plate the car still has a license and a coc....it merely has no plate......if a guy hands back his license.....then thats a different matter.

(sorry of the use of the word 'guy', this might come across as sexist, he might be a lady for all i know)

The comment came about from an LO when one of the wisecrack drivers said he would remove his plate when using his vehicle for personal use and then he could smoke in his car. Idiots don't just work for the council they get licensed by them
