 Post subject: moving traffic offence

I don't know if this has been covered previously, but here goes......

We have a driver who is insistant that if the police pull you for a defective light, and you notice that they also (eg) have a headlight out, they cannot issue any caution. I think it comes under the "urban legend" banner, but he says no. So who is right?

Can of worms I think Grumpy, just let the plod issue you with what they've got to issue you with then get on your way.

I got same feeling, a 21 day slip or half an hour+ off the road while they run the rule over the rest of the car, paperwork etc. Seems a no-brainer to me.

we had a partsvan driver (merc 811d) who got pulled for using lane 3 of a motorway

he argued with the cops that as he wasnt using the vehicle for "haulage" and was in fact "owner use" (of his company goods) on a restricted o-licence, he could use lane 3

he got a ticket, points and fine instead of a talking to
