Post subject:  Each case individual, or specific rules?

I have a criminal record from many moons ago, mainly as a teenager, nothing serious, just a few drunk and disorderly, and a Drink driving ban. I'm almost forty now and so this is very much behind me now but I am wondering if this will effect my license application. I hear they take each case individually and as long as I can convince them I a sound and reasonable person then I should be alright. I am looking at getting my Hackney and private license for Newcastle upon tyne.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Bob

The council will check you out, so tell them the truth from the start.

You don't state the time that has elapsed since your last conviction, but if it's more than 10 years you will be fine, if it's between 5 and 10 then you should still be ok, less than 5 years and they might refuse.

Best bet is to contact you local council and ask them for an applications pack, and that should have the info you need.

Oh and don't say to them that a drink driving ban was/is nothing too serious. :-$

8 years since I was cautioned for being drunk. Before that it was well over 10 years, more like 18-20 years. The Drink driving, you think that will be an issue?

As Sussex says just tell the truth from the start, the worst thing they can do is say no. How long ago was the drink driving issue? (what a nice way to put it 'issue' )

Like Sussex says be honest and put all the dates down.

Not if it was 20 years ago.

My drink driving was 19 years ago, I had heard of people even getting through with 2 convictions if it was long enough ago, so I thought it wouldn't be an issue at all. I did have a ban before I was even old enough to drive for taking my dads car out while they were on holiday when I was 15, but that should be far enough in the past too?
